Mehera Blum Shares the Story Behind Ciara’s Blumera Met Gala Bag
Mehera Blum shares the inspiration and craftsmanship behind the Blumera Simurgh & Hummingbirds Brass Mini U Horseshoe Clutch carried by Ciara at the Met Gala 2026. Inspired by Conference of the Birds, a painting by Laurie Blum, the sculptural brass handbag was envisioned as a collectible work of wearable art blending symbolism, extraordinary craftsmanship, and soulful luxury.
Entirely hand-sculpted and finished in Italy, the piece reflects Blumera’s dedication to transforming traditional craftsmanship into heirlooms for future generations. From the luminous brass finish to the intricate sculptural detailing, every element was designed under the creative direction of Mehera Blum and brought to life by master artisans.
Blumera creates sculptural luxury handbags, collectible design, bespoke furniture, and immersive environments inspired by artistry, spirituality, travel, and craftsmanship. With patrons including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and royalty, Blumera creations have increasingly become recognized on the red carpet and at major cultural events including the Met Gala.

From the Video:
"This bag is so special. It is a hand-carved work of he(art). More than a bag, it is a large piece of functional jewelry."
"It tells the story of the birds’ journey to the Simurgh, based on Attar’s Conference of the Birds and my mother Laurie Blum’s painting by the same name. I traced my mother’s brushstrokes and guided Pak Mangku’s hands in our temple atelier. He carved directly into my mom’s lines, bringing the Simurgh and Hummingbirds to life."
"The Simurgh represents the mythical bird of God who the birds are on their journey back to: their true divine self."
