Mehera Blum seeks to create the same living vibrance in the Poppies! Collection as her late mother’s exuberant painting by the same name, Poppies!. Blum seeks to give the bearer a spark of the joy of life expressed by the Poppy flower. The limited edition collection has been hand-embroidered in order to replicate sections of the painting. Over two hundred and fifty hours of meticulous and handcrafted precision are dedicated to the creation of each bag, truly making it a work of art. 

Each season Mehera is recreating a painting, in bag form, from her mother’s vast library of work. And for this season, she has named it the season of the Poppy! Mehera and her Mother have always shared a unique facility with their usage of color. As Mehera describes: “Magenta abounds fragrantly in Poppies! and the other colors boldly dance in harmony with the magenta popping from every flower. I can feel the intoxicating joy that my mother described in the atmosphere she was recreating: ‘I am painting the atmosphere that the Poppies imbibe here!’”

It was of utmost importance to Mehera to respect the lines of her mother’s brushstrokes, colors, and shading. She sat with each artisan in order to guide the thread, color, and direction of the needle so that this enormous feat could be met successfully.

The collection is handcrafted using brush-off and smooth box-calfskin leather that act as a shiny canvas to showcase the embroidery. Crowning the collection are regal, gold-finished custom Blumera chains and medallions handmade in Italy. 

In addition to the technical aspects of this collection, each piece has a unique story. The colors and design of the collection mimic Spring and Summer but also bring a sense of joy and vibrancy to Autumn and Fall. As Mehera describes, “There is something so beautiful about wearing color when all is dark and gloomy around us. I feel it really does enliven the spirit and the atmosphere.” 

At a moment in time where there is such divisiveness and doom and gloom in the world, we must dig deep to find our joy, optimism, love, kindness, and beauty. Poppies! invites us to to look within to find our true beauty and divinity. This collection is dedicated to the One within us all: the One that embodies Truth, Love, Beauty, and Purity. And so, let us rejoice in Poppies'! voice of Joy.
